Have you read Isiaha 58 lately? I know that he is talking about fasting there, but fasting is also worship isn’t it? So Isiaha is talking about how you fast (Worship) and what you do. This is what it should be about, verse 6 -7. Setting the oppressed free, break the enslaving yokes, feed the hungry, clothe the naked etc. I don’t need to say much just read it, its pretty straight forward.
But now here comes the BOMB that really struck me in this passage. Verse 10.
” And if you pour out that with which you sustain your own life for the hungry and satisfy the need of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in darkness, and your obscurity and gloom become like the noonday.”
Booommm! Brain-plosion; Paradigm-Shift! Do you hear that cracking sound…………. its your box you live in just starting to go! Do you see what I am talking about?
Pour out that with which you sustain your own life! Thats Huge! We tend to give little bits here and there, but we still buy our expensive cheese and exotic wines! Our over priced coffee and brand name clothes. We spend more on a nice car not because it gets us anywhere faster (especially through Gauteng traffic), but because we are self centered selfish western consumers and label it “Gods Blessing’ while millions still go hungry! We have been Brainwashed to think wee need MUCH more than we really do. 1 Timothy 6:8 says, “but if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied)
Sounds like we have to take the food out of our mouths and give that to the afflicted or poor, then our light will rise, and then Verse 11- 12 can happen. Not when we give what we have extra, or left over.
And the reason I gave the title is “Do we really worship?” is because of James 1:27. Seems that True worship is actually a little different than what we want it to be. Hmmmm… my hamster has now fallen of the wheel and I have gone cross-eyed!
